British Values are designed to promote an equal and just society. These values are democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.
Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development is the over-arching umbrella that encompasses personal development across the whole curriculum.
Prevent is one part of the Government's overall counter-terrorism strategy, CONTEST. The aim of Prevent is to tackle the ideological causes of terrorism, to intervene early to support people susceptible to radicalisation, to enable people who have already engaged in terrorism to disengage and rehabilitate
At my setting, democracy is promoted by influencing the children to have their own views and opinions, and by listening to the views and opinions of others. Mutual Respect and Tolerance is promoted by learning about and respecting different faiths within my curriculum and the children that attend my setting. Rule of Law is promoted by appreciating and respecting the rules within my setting, and why they are put in place as a matter of safety and structure. Individual Liberty is promoted by the children being taught about their rights, and how these are protected.
At my setting, Spiritual development is promoted by through imagination and creativity, discussing what they have done or made. Moral development is promoted by understanding right and wrong through rules, as well as understanding that certain behaviours have consequences. Social development is promoted by the many opportunities to develop social skills, being part of a community and attending events, and by understanding the British Values. Cultural development is promoted by understanding and appreciating a range of culture and religions through key dates and the curriculum, and by participating in music and the arts,
