The PDF Presentation named 'Curriculum Web - Books' is my 'Long-Term Curriculum' that is to be implemented into my setting. This has been edited for Parents and Carers to view. Parents and Carers are able to get an idea of the literature and themes that I will be teaching and offering through play-based learning and enhanced continuous provision. The children's interests are very important to ensure that they build concrete learning and enjoy their play through various opportunities for discovery and questioning. Therefore, the children's interests will be added to my 'Medium-Term' planning accordingly (shared with Parents/Carers that attend only).
Further down are some of the many things that myself and my curriculum offer to children in my care.
My curriculum and setting celebrates all types of diversity and cultures for children to learn about and to experience for themselves.
Meeting the EYFS standards of Learning and Development naturally occurs through problem-solving and critical thinking. Furthermore, I offer encouragement and guidance to support children to reach their milestones at their own pace, and to be proud of their achievements.
The learning that takes place at my setting involves hands-on learning through a play-based approach. Children explore their local community and heritage to discover their family backgrounds and history of Barnsley.
I offer an inclusive environment that fosters creativity, imagination, curiosity, and a love for learning. I have a very large amount of learning resources and toys that spark interest and are rotated, often through topics/themes and children's interests.
Myself and my curriculum meet the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive needs of each unique child child through the seven Areas of Learning, the Characteristics of Effective Learning, Positive Relationships and the Enabling Environment.
On a daily basis, I offer many opportunities for children to learn essential life skills from a young age.
Children enjoy stories and re-telling the main events of a story through puppets, repeated refrains and characters. Children in my care learn about different story settings and the way characters feel. Non-fiction texts allow children to understand the world around them.
Children learn through trial and error and within my setting, children learn that is normal to make mistakes and learn from them. Children within my care develop concrete learning and become resilient in everything they do.
Children learn through their five senses and within my setting, children have the ability to explore a sensory-rich environment through new and exciting experiences.
Children learn mathematic skills through practical and hands-on experiences that allows them to problem solve and gain skills which they will use throughout their lives.
Children are offered a variety of opportunities to make marks through drawing and painting, to name a few. These skills, combined with fine-motor skills, allows children to begin to develop the foundations for writing.
Children are influenced to be creative and artistic through their expression of Music and The Arts. This takes place within a calm and relaxing setting with a beautiful garden full of wildlife.
Children learn self-regulation by learning about their own emotions (as well as the emotions of others) and by beginning to regulate these in a variety of ways, sometimes with resources. Children in my care are encouraged to express their emotions, understand how it makes them feel and why.
Children learn gross-motor skills by using the big muscles in their body, to support their growth, health and overall physical development. They also learn fine-motor skills by using the small muscles in their body, which supports their grasp, mark-making and handwriting.
Children within my setting learn about healthy foods and how they help our body grow and repair. Children learn that the nutrients and natural sugars in some foods help us to be active and give them energy. The meals that I serve within my setting are healthy and nutritious.
