Children are encouraged to eat healthy by making healthy choices about the food that they eat. Consumables served at my setting include lots of fruit, vegetables and protein-rich meat (Quorn for vegetarian option). I will adhere to the child's allergy and dietary needs at the parent/carer's request by offering food to meet the dietary needs of all children.
Children are encouraged to exercise daily outdoors, where they are not always aware they are burning off energy. Combined with healthy eating, exercising promotes a healthy child with strong bones and muscles.
Children in my care an encouraged to learn and adapt good hygiene practices by washing their hands when required and by maintaining good oral hygiene through brushing their teeth.
Emotions can be overwhelming for children and young people. Especially when they cannot describe or demonstrate how they are feeling. It is important for children to be able to express their emotions in a variety of ways. Doing so allows children to self-regulate their emotions, thoughts and behaviour.
It is important for children to experience new and sometimes, challenging experiences to develop confidence and resilience. Children learn from trial and error, and are influenced to keep trying until they meet their goals and are proud of themselves.
Quality sleep is essential for children’s growth and development. Good sleep hygiene will help children concentrate, allow them to react more quickly, have a more developed memory, learn more effectively and solve problems, and can make them less susceptible to illness.
